Empowering Innovation: Governance Workshop on AI Compliance

AI with Accountability: A Governance Workshop

On April 23, 2025, a significant workshop titled “Balancing Innovation & Compliance in AI: A Practical Approach” was conducted at the QIASS Lusail Campus in Doha, Qatar. This event was organized by the Qatar International Academy for Security Studies (QIASS) in collaboration with the American Chamber of Commerce in Qatar (AmCham).

Objective of the Workshop

The workshop aimed to address the evolving relationship between innovation and regulation in the rapidly changing landscape of artificial intelligence (AI). Bringing together leaders from the legal, business, and tech communities, the event sought to empower regional stakeholders with practical tools for managing innovation, compliance, and cross-border implementation.

Key Insights and Discussions

Mr. Mohamed ElBaih, a distinguished Visiting Scholar from The George Washington University Law School, shared invaluable insights during the session. His expertise in AI, privacy law, and cybersecurity policy provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of the complexities surrounding AI governance.

The workshop agenda included an in-depth exploration of risk management methodologies such as the NIST framework, compliance considerations under the EU AI Act, and strategies for building adaptable AI governance frameworks. Through detailed case studies and expert-led discussions, attendees examined how businesses can deploy AI technologies responsibly while adhering to both local and international regulatory guidelines.

Statements from Key Figures

Hesham Elgamiel, Senior Director of Quality Control and Business Development at QIASS, remarked, “Artificial intelligence is not just a paradigm shift for operations but also the way we think about security, governance, and innovation.” He emphasized the workshop’s reflection of QIASS’s commitment to providing cutting-edge training that supports the responsible adoption of emerging technologies.

Xiomara Henriquez, Executive Director from AmCham Qatar, expressed her enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “This dynamic training session is an example of the progressive collaboration that characterizes the US-Qatar business relationship.” She highlighted the importance of empowering the business community with the knowledge and tools necessary to innovate responsibly and remain compliant with global trends.

Future Directions

This workshop is a part of QIASS’s expanding portfolio of cybersecurity and emerging tech programming. Following successful events such as the ‘Criminal Cyber Threats to Business’ seminar held in December, QIASS plans to introduce more workshops in 2025, reinforcing its position as a regional leader in strategic training and international security dialogue.
