Data Constraints and Privacy Concerns

However, the reliance on data presents challenges. Internet data often includes biases and toxic content, leading to concerns about the quality of training datasets. A recent regional red-teaming challenge revealed troubling stereotypes generated by a language model, highlighting the risks associated with unfiltered training data. As developers deplete public datasets, attention is shifting towards more sensitive sources, including private partnerships with universities, companies, and governments, which raises new privacy issues.

Challenges in AI Application Deployment

The deployment of AI applications can also pose significant risks. A test involving a chatbot used by a high-tech manufacturer revealed that it leaked backend sales commission rates when prompted in Mandarin. For instance, financial firm Ant International successfully trained a model with a digital wallet partner using separate datasets, thereby improving voucher targeting and engagement without compromising customer privacy.

Synthetic data also offers potential advantages. The Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) has published a guide on Synthetic Data Generation, outlining best practices. Local firms like Betterdata are assisting developers in augmenting training datasets while safeguarding sensitive information.
