Streamline AI Governance with SAS AI Navigator

Introducing SAS AI Navigator: A Comprehensive Solution for AI Governance and Compliance

SAS launches AI Navigator, a SaaS platform designed to help organizations map, manage, and govern their AI assets. The solution offers a centralized overview of AI models, agents, and large language models (LLMs), linking them to internal policies and external regulations to mitigate the risks associated with shadow AI.

Why AI Governance Matters

Rapid AI adoption has led many enterprises to lose track of the AI tools and models in use, a phenomenon known as shadow AI. This lack of visibility creates compliance risks, especially in heavily regulated sectors such as financial services and healthcare. According to Reggie Townsend, Vice President of AI Ethics, Governance, and Social Impact at SAS, “AI governance is too often thought of as a compliance measure. It’s a growth driver.” By turning governance into an enabler, organizations can push AI boundaries within a secure, transparent framework.

Key Features of SAS AI Navigator

Centralized Inventory: Tracks all AI assets—whether built in-house or sourced from vendors—across their entire lifecycle, from experimentation to decommissioning.

Model Registration & Linking: Allows users to register models and associate them with internal policies and external regulatory frameworks, ensuring alignment with compliance requirements.

Multi-Vendor Compatibility: Supports a wide range of AI technologies, including LLMs, AI agents, and both open-source and SAS-specific models. It integrates seamlessly with existing AI workflows without requiring major changes.

Policy Enforcement: Enables organizations to enforce policies that match regulatory standards, providing a structured environment for AI deployment in customer-facing applications such as chatbots.

Deployment and Availability

SAS AI Navigator is offered as a standalone SaaS product, accessible to both existing and new SAS customers. Organizations interested in a private preview can sign up via the SAS website. The solution is scheduled to be available on the Microsoft Azure Marketplace in the third quarter of 2026.

Use Cases and Industry Impact

In sectors with strict compliance mandates, such as financial services and healthcare, the platform helps organizations maintain a clear audit trail of AI usage, reducing the risk of regulatory penalties. By providing a transparent governance layer, companies can safely innovate with AI while meeting legal obligations.
