SS&C Proposes Open Standards for Enterprise AI Governance

SS&C Advocates for Open Governance Standards in Enterprise AI

Windsor, Conn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–SS&C Technologies Holdings, Inc. has announced the publication of its Enterprise AI Governance Framework, advocating for the adoption of open standards in the deployment of agentic AI within regulated environments. This initiative responds to the increasing demand for portable AI deployment standards as the use of AI agents expands across various enterprises.

The Need for a Shared Framework

According to Rob Stone, Head of Intelligent Automation and Analytics at SS&C, “What’s missing is a shared framework for how enterprises manage and evolve AI workflows at scale — one that works across models, platforms, and vendor relationships.” He emphasizes the necessity for organizations to freely build, adapt, and reconstruct AI workflows in accordance with their governance policies.

Current standards, such as NIST and ISO 42001, provide essential guidelines on AI risk management and data governance, yet they fall short in addressing the operational complexities involved in deploying AI agents at enterprise scale. As organizations gravitate towards autonomous and multi-step AI workflows, a notable gap emerges in the operationalization, management, and governance of these systems in production.

Core Principles of the Framework

SS&C’s framework aims to fill this gap, introducing key principles that include:

  • Portability: The capacity to replace any model, tool, or workflow component without necessitating a complete system rebuild.
  • Build-time auditability: A permanent record maintained at every workflow node’s design, documenting decisions, alternatives, and approvals.
  • Runtime observability: Continuous monitoring of system performance in production, ensuring alignment with intended design.
  • Data sovereignty: Adherence to geographic and regulatory constraints on data processing from design through execution.
  • Operational resilience: Pre-validated alternatives at every node to prevent model deprecations, provider changes, or contract limitations from causing system-wide failures.

Establishing a Working Group

SS&C is in the process of establishing a working group to further develop these standards. Enterprises, regulators, and industry stakeholders interested in participating are encouraged to reach out via email at ai.framework@sscinc.com. A formal structure for the working group is set to be announced in the second quarter of 2026.
