Nvidia’s Agentic AI Stack: A New Era in Security

For the first time in the history of major AI platform releases, security was integrated at launch rather than added months later. At Nvidia’s GTC event, five security vendors announced their protective measures for Nvidia’s agentic AI stack, with four already having active deployments and one confirming early integration.

The Threat Landscape

The urgency of this development reflects the rapidly evolving threat landscape. According to a survey, 48% of cybersecurity professionals regard agentic AI as the foremost attack vector heading into 2026. Alarmingly, only 29% of organizations feel adequately prepared to deploy these technologies securely. In an enterprise setting, machine identities outnumber human employees by an astounding 82 to 1.

Furthermore, IBM’s 2026 X-Force Threat Intelligence Index reported a 44% increase in attacks exploiting public-facing applications, intensified by AI-enabled vulnerability scanning.

Nvidia’s Security Framework

Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, emphasized the risks associated with agentic systems in corporate networks, stating, “Agentic systems can access sensitive information, execute code, and communicate externally. This cannot be allowed.”

Nvidia introduced a unified threat model tailored to adapt to the unique strengths of five different security vendors. Collaborators in this initiative include Google, Microsoft Security, and TrendAI.

The Five-Layer Governance Framework

The governance framework developed from the vendor announcements and the OWASP Agentic Top 10 outlines crucial governance layers:

  • Agent Decisions: Requires real-time guardrails on every prompt, response, and action to prevent poisoned inputs from triggering privileged actions.
  • Local Execution: Involves behavioral monitoring for on-device agents, ensuring local agents do not run unprotected.
  • Cloud Ops: Focuses on runtime enforcement across cloud deployments to prevent agent-to-agent privilege escalation.
  • Identity: Enforces scoped privileges per agent identity to mitigate risks associated with inherited credentials.
  • Supply Chain: Involves model scanning and provenance verification prior to deployment to prevent compromised models from entering production.

Security leaders can evaluate specific vendors for each layer: CrowdStrike for agent decisions and identity, Palo Alto Networks for cloud runtime, JFrog for supply chain provenance, Cisco for prompt-layer inspection, and WWT for pre-production validation.

Operational Implications

Managing multiple vendors across five enforcement layers introduces operational overhead that must be addressed. The governance matrix serves as a coverage map, but organizations must also consider practical implementation challenges.

Key Challenges and Gaps

Despite advancements, three significant gaps remain unaddressed:

  • Agent-to-Agent Trust: No vendor has demonstrated a comprehensive trust policy for delegation chains between agents.
  • Memory Integrity: Persistent memory in agents creates a unique attack surface that requires stringent controls.
  • Registry-to-Runtime Provenance: The engineering challenge of ensuring the model executing in production matches the scanned and signed artifact remains unresolved.

Recommendations for Security Leaders

As organizations adopt agentic AI, they must:

  • Conduct a five-layer audit of all autonomous agents in production.
  • Count unanswered vendor questions; three or more indicate ungoverned agents.
  • li>Pressure-test the three open gaps with vendors.

  • Establish an oversight model to ensure human involvement in critical decisions.

The advancements presented at GTC are merely a scaffold for a more secure future. Organizations must treat the governance framework as a living tool to adapt and respond to the challenges posed by agentic AI.
