Artificial Intelligence for the Better!
Global AI Governance Initiative Released
On April 13th, a significant announcement was made to foster global academic consensus and promote AI governance. Organized by the China Association for Science and Technology, this initiative was jointly released by 16 professional academic institutions, including the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence, the Chinese Computer Society, and the World Robotics Cooperation Organization.
Core Aspects of the Initiative
The initiative emphasizes two core aspects: benefiting people’s livelihood and safe control. It clearly states that AI academic research should adhere to the fundamental principle of promoting the common well-being of humanity. Ensuring that technological development serves the common interests of all mankind is of utmost importance.
Safety and Control in AI Research
Safety is highlighted as the bottom line of AI research and governance. It is essential to ensure that technology remains within the controllable scope of humans. The initiative advocates for respecting the equal rights of countries to participate in governance and to follow their independently formulated policy paths.
Implementation Strategies
The 16 initiating organizations propose establishing a cross-sector, diverse collaborative mechanism. This approach aims to break down barriers to collaboration and gather the wisdom of global scientists, facilitating mutual learning in the construction of the governance system.
Enhancing Scientific Literacy
Furthermore, the initiative calls for conducting popular science dialogues through various channels. This effort seeks to enhance the scientific literacy of the public and address social concerns regarding AI.
Global Cooperation and Ethics
Given the transnational nature of artificial intelligence, the initiative urges global science and technology associations to uphold their professional ethics. Strengthening international cooperation with an open and inclusive attitude is vital for promoting “AI for good”. Through practical measures, the academic community aims to contribute its wisdom and strength to building a community with a shared future for humanity.
