European AI Roundtable Explores Transparency in the AI Act

In Pictures: European AI Roundtable on the AI Act’s Transparency Code of Practice

On 11 December 2025, the Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA Europe) hosted its latest edition of the European AI Roundtable in Brussels. The event gathered EU policymakers, industry experts, academia, and civil society to discuss Article 50 of the EU AI Act and the forthcoming Transparency Code of Practice.

Focus of Discussion

The discussions centered on how transparency obligations, such as the labelling of AI-generated content and interactive AI systems, can be effectively implemented. The aim was to ensure that these measures are meaningful for users while avoiding excessive compliance burdens or ‘labelling fatigue’.

Participants cautioned against overly prescriptive requirements that could overwhelm users and erode trust. Additionally, they pointed out that rigid technical standards may quickly become outdated.

Presentation of New Study

The Roundtable highlighted the presentation of a new study by Professor Joan Barata regarding Article 50. The study contended that the Code should focus on AI systems that present genuine risks of deception or impersonation, rather than applying to all AI-generated content.

Moreover, attendees discussed the technical challenges associated with robust watermarking and detection mechanisms for AI-generated materials.

Conclusion

The Roundtable concluded that the upcoming Code must remain flexible and proportionate, supporting the goals of the AI Act while remaining practical for both users and developers.
