Empowering AI for a Smarter Future

Cal Al-Dhubaib Champions Responsible AI for Real-World Impact

From Cleveland, Cal Al-Dhubaib is playing a pivotal role in helping global companies harness the power of artificial intelligence (AI) while ensuring its trustworthiness. As the Head of AI and Data Science at Further, he leads teams that design data-driven systems for some of the world’s most recognized brands, focusing on building smarter and more personalized customer experiences, all while keeping ethics and governance at the forefront.

Founding Pandata

Before his tenure at Further, Al-Dhubaib founded Pandata, an AI design and development firm known for its commitment to responsible innovation in high-risk environments. Under his leadership, Pandata formed partnerships with esteemed organizations like Cleveland Clinic, Progressive Insurance, and FirstEnergy, setting a new standard for human-centered AI before its acquisition by Further in 2024.

Professional Recognition and Community Engagement

A certified AI governance professional and a frequent keynote speaker, Al-Dhubaib has engaged thousands through presentations at major conferences such as MAICON, ODSC, AI Summit, TDWI, and DataCamp. His insights have been featured in prominent publications including Forbes, Nasdaq, VentureBeat, and CDO Magazine.

Beyond his corporate achievements, Al-Dhubaib gives back to his community by serving on the board of Women in Analytics and supporting initiatives through the Greater Cleveland Partnership and Cleveland Food Bank. His contributions have earned him recognition from Crain’s Cleveland Business as a Notable Immigrant Leader, Entrepreneur, and a member of the 40 Under 40 honorees.

Al-Dhubaib’s Vision for AI in Ohio

For Al-Dhubaib, the mission is clear: create AI that enhances human productivity and quality of life—systems that are as responsible as they are intelligent.

In discussing the future of Ohio’s innovation economy, he states, “Ohio’s opportunity is less about chasing the next shiny AI use case and more about building the workforce and controls to use AI effectively. We already have a track record with programs like TechCred that show what happens when you invest in technical literacy at scale. If we continue to raise the bar on AI quality control and decision accountability, the healthcare systems, financial institutions, manufacturers, and retailers that anchor Ohio’s economy will be able to adopt AI with confidence and at scale.”

Prioritizing AI Investments

Al-Dhubaib emphasizes the importance of prioritizing AI investments in areas with labor scarcity. He identifies sectors such as healthcare, education, and parts of manufacturing where demand for skilled workers already exceeds supply. He notes that the growing gap between new graduates and employer demand for experienced talent will not close without adequate funding and programs that support on-the-job learning, including applied, hackathon-style models that provide real-world experience.
