The Governance Gap: Why Speed-First Growth Becomes a Risk Multiplier

When Binance expanded across Latin America, it operated in a region with uneven crypto adoption, varied banking access, and differing regulatory clarity. The early growth strategy prioritized speed, leading to a risk multiplier as operations scaled across diverse markets.

Benson notes that as operations expanded, governance did not mature in tandem with user growth. What began as agile operations became increasingly difficult to manage. Global systems require global governance, and the operational model must evolve as rapidly as the user base.

Incentive alignment remains a contentious issue in AI-native finance. Many products benefit from higher turnover or user overconfidence, while unresolved issues like auditability and data rights persist. For AI-native finance to mature, shared norms around transparency, accountability, and stress testing must develop alongside technology.
