AI Industry Super PAC Raises $125 Million in 2025
A new super PAC backed by AI companies has successfully raised $125 million in 2025, aiming to support candidates who advocate for national AI regulations instead of a fragmented state-by-state approach.
Formation and Financial Status
The group, named Leading the Future, announced that it had $70 million available at the end of the year after its establishment in the summer. This announcement was made ahead of the PAC’s first campaign finance report submission.
Concerns Over State Regulations
With various states either enacting or considering their own AI laws, there is a growing concern among industry leaders regarding the emergence of a patchwork of regulations that could impede advancements in AI technology. The PAC emphasizes the need for cohesive national guidelines to avoid technological stagnation.
Statements from Leadership
Zac Moffatt and Josh Vlasto, the political strategists leading the PAC, stated, “Leadership in AI innovation will define economic growth, national security, and America’s role in the global economy.” They stressed that lawmakers must not be swayed by distractions that could hinder progress, promising to elevate the message of candidates who understand these stakes.
Political Engagement
Despite the full disclosure of the PAC’s expenses and donors still pending, Leading the Future has already begun its involvement in the midterm elections. The PAC is actively opposing Alex Bores, a Democratic candidate for a Manhattan congressional seat, who has been a major proponent of New York’s recently adopted AI legislation. Conversely, they are supporting Chris Gober, a Republican congressional candidate in Texas.
Bipartisan Support and Advocacy
Interestingly, the PAC has expressed intentions to support candidates from both the Democratic and Republican parties. It is also affiliated with the advocacy group Build American AI, which has launched a $10 million initiative advocating for a uniform national AI policy.
Key Contributors
Contributors to Leading the Future include notable figures and organizations such as private equity firm Andreessen Horowitz, OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman, Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale, SV Angel founder Ron Conway, and AI software company Perplexity.
