The EU Artificial Intelligence (AI) Act represents a significant step towards regulating the integration of AI technologies within the life sciences sector. Understanding the EU AI Act

First published in the EU Official Journal on July 12, 2024, the EU AI Act classifies AI use into four risk categories: unacceptable, high, limited, and minimal risk. Unacceptable risks include AI systems that manipulate individuals into engaging in unwanted behaviors, while minimal risk encompasses applications such as AI-enabled video games and spam filters.

Implemented in August 2024, the Act will fully come into force by August 2026, with certain obligations already active as of February 2, 2025. Organizations utilizing AI systems will face fewer obligations than those developing or marketing AI systems, with high-risk developers given until August 2, 2027 to comply.

Challenges for the Life Sciences Sector
