Scottish AI Alliance Highlights Ethical AI in Scotland

The Scottish AI Alliance has released its 2024/2025 Impact Report, showcasing a transformative year of progress in promoting trustworthy, ethical, and inclusive artificial intelligence across Scotland.

The report emphasizes how the Scottish AI Alliance has effectively turned strategy into tangible action, empowering people, supporting businesses, and shaping Scotland’s AI policy landscape.

Significant Achievements

In what is noted as its most impactful year to date, the Alliance has dramatically expanded its reach, delivering national programmes that foster public understanding and responsible adoption of AI.

Key achievements include:

  • Engagement of over 1,500 individual learners through the flagship Living with AI course, achieving a 34% completion rate, nearly triple the industry average.
  • Onboarding of 17 partner organizations to host and license the course, including the Scottish Government, Glasgow School of Art, and Borders College.
  • Support for over 200 businesses via the relaunch of the Scottish AI Playbook, which introduced new tools such as an AI Maturity Framework, AI Jargon Buster, and an adoption case study library.
  • Registration of 22 public sector AI use cases on the Scottish AI Register, enhancing transparency and enabling public feedback on government AI use.
  • Hosting of four regional AI Summits in Aberdeen, Dundee, Glasgow, and Inverness, facilitating inclusive discussions on AI within local communities.

Creative Collaborations

The Scottish AI Alliance also initiated several creative collaborations, including the Creative AI Forum and the How to Find the Soul of a Sailor exhibition, which explored the role of AI through the lenses of arts, memory, and climate.

Looking to the Future

As it moves forward, the Scottish AI Alliance aims to:

  • Expand its Living with AI programme into the private sector.
  • Launch a suite of micro courses tailored to industry needs.
  • Deliver additional events, including a People’s Panel on AI in Health & Care and a regional summit in Dumfries.

According to the Chair of the Scottish AI Alliance, “This impactful year has not only advanced public understanding of AI but has also set a benchmark for inclusive and responsible AI governance in Scotland.”
